Day 01
Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, a Satluj Travels staff member will meet you at the airport terminal and assist with your transfer to the hotel. In the evening, enjoy dinner followed by a tour orientation session where you will receive detailed information about the journey ahead.

Day 02
Kathmandu – Sightseeing Tour

After breakfast, proceed for a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu. Visit the sacred Pashupatinath Temple – one of the holiest Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva – followed by Budhanilkantha Temple, also known as the Temple of the Sleeping Vishnu.

After lunch at the hotel, the remainder of the day is completely free for your trip preparation – arranging permits, packing, and getting ready for the adventurous journey to Mount Kailash.

Day 03
Fly to Gonggar Airport (1 Hour) & Drive to Lhasa (90 km – 1 Hour)

This morning after breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to the airport for one of the world's most scenic flights to Lhasa. This spectacular flight offers sweeping views of:

  • Mount Everest (8,848 meters)

  • Kanchenjunga (8,536 meters)

  • Other majestic Himalayan ranges

Upon arrival at Gonggar Airport, you will be received by our Tibetan guide and transferred to Lhasa with a scenic drive of approximately 1 hour.

Important: Due to Lhasa's high altitude (3,650 meters / 11,972 feet), it is advisable to relax and take it easy for the remainder of the day to allow your body to acclimatize.

Day 04
Rest Day & Sightseeing in Lhasa (3,650 meters)

Today is a free day in Lhasa for rest and relaxation to aid with acclimatization. A sightseeing tour of Lhasa city can be arranged for those interested.

Major attractions in Lhasa:

  • Jokhang Temple – The most sacred temple in Tibetan Buddhism

  • Barkhor Market – A vibrant street lined with vendors selling:

    • Thankas (Tibetan Buddhist paintings)

    • Masks and prayer beads

    • Tibetan traditional treasures

Important Note: Entrance fees for monuments are not included in the package cost. Those wishing to enter must pay the entry fee directly to the guide. The rest of the group can enjoy wandering around the monuments and markets.

Day 05
Lhasa to Shigatse (3,900 meters) – 275 km / 6 Hours
 

Today the group will travel toward Shigatse – the second largest city of Tibet – along the northern route of the Friendship Highway.

Tashilunpo Monastery is the highlight of Shigatse. This is one of the largest operating monasteries in Tibet and serves as the official throne of the Panchen Lama. The monastery was built in 1447 and is a vast complex with its own:

  • Streets and housing sectors

  • Plazas and back alleys

  • Complex of temples and halls

Day 06
Shigatse to Saga (4,400 meters) – 450 km / 8 Hours

After an early breakfast, we begin our extensive journey toward the ultimate destination – Kailash. The highway drive to Saga is both picturesque and enjoyable, passing through:

  • High mountain passes

  • Scenic landscapes

  • Small towns and villages

  • Beautiful lakes along the route

Important: Upon arriving in Saga, our Sherpa staff team and Nepali chef will begin preparing and serving Indian vegetarian dishes for the remainder of the Kailash Yatra.

Day 07
Saga to Lake Mansarovar (Chiu Gompa) (4,550 meters) – 510 km / 9 Hours

Today is the highlighted day of this sacred journey. You will wake up early morning and have breakfast at the hotel. Today, we finally reach the holy Lake Mansarovar and Mount Kailash – the ultimate goal of this pilgrimage.

En route highlights:

  • Mayum-La Pass (5,200 meters) – The highest motorable pass of this journey

  • Lunch will be served near the Horchu River, before Mayum-La Pass, at a local Tibetan restaurant

Additional provisions: We will carry fruits, juice, biscuits, and bread on an alternate basis to support our en-route journey.

Today's activities:

  • Perform Parikrama (circumambulation) of Lake Mansarovar – approximately 70% of its full circle

  • Overnight stay at Chiu Gompa Camp

  • Take a holy dip and perform puja and homage to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar according to your own religious tradition

Overnight stay at a guesthouse near the shore of Lake Mansarovar.

Day 08
Sub Label
Lake Mansarovar to Darchen to Yamadwar

Today you will have plenty of time for Puja, Hawan, and holy bath in Lake Mansarovar – the lake believed to have been created by Lord Brahma in his mind.

Morning options:

  • Continue with puja and rituals at the lake

  • Hike to Chiu Gompa (start early morning) – located on a hilltop near the camp

For the Parikrama Group:

  • Drive to Darchen, then to Sherson near Yamadwar

  • Yamadwar is the place from where the group has a wonderful view of the south face of Mount Kailash from close proximity

From Yamadwar, begin trekking to Diraphuk (north face of Kailash):

  • Today's trek is moderate – flat trails with gradual uphill sections

  • Follow the Glacier River alongside

  • Midway stop at a tea shop for packed lunch

  • Continue with a slight uphill trek to Diraphuk Camp with stunning glimpses of the north face of Mount Kailash

Optional Activity: Those who reach camp early and are fit may walk further uphill for Charan Sparsh (touching the feet of Kailash) – if army permits.

Day 9
Expedition – Shivasthal, Gaurikunda & Zuthulphuk

This is the toughest day of the Parikrama.

Important Timings:

  • Wake up at 4:00 AM

  • Start trekking by 5:00 AM

  • Do not forget to carry packed lunch

The Journey:

  • The trail begins going uphill from the very start

  • Continue climbing until reaching Dolma-La Pass (5,800 meters) – approximately 4 to 5 hours

  • Then begin descending to the flat valley region on the other side of Dolma-La Pass

Key Highlights on the Way:

  • Shivasthal at Dolma-La – Covered with prayer flags and various offerings including clothing and ornaments

  • Gauri Kunda – A stunning holy lake visible on the right side below the hill (while descending)

  • Brief glacier path crossing

  • Tea shop for lunch break at the plain valley

The Final Leg: Easy walk on flat trail, though tedious with similar landscape that feels never-ending. The last section follows along the riverbank up to Zuthulphuk.

Day 10
End Trek (11 km – 3 hours) & Drive to Saga (4,400 meters) – 460 km / 7 Hours

Today the trail is simple and flat, so you will complete the journey within 2 to 3 hours. You will be picked up at the ending point near Darchen by our vehicle, then transferred to Saga along with all group members.

Day 11
Return to Shigatse – 450 km / 8 Hours

Return back to Shigatse via the same scenic route.

Day 12
Return to Lhasa – 275 km / 6 Hours

Today you will drive back to Lhasa through the northern highway route.

Day 13
Fly Back to Kathmandu

This is the last day in Tibet. After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to Lhasa Airport. Our Tibetan guide will see you off at the airport.

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, our transport will transfer you to your hotel in Kathmandu. Rest, refresh, and relax after completing this sacred journey.

Day 14
Departure from Kathmandu

You will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu for your flight back home, carrying lifelong memories of your Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with Satluj Travels.
